Fall Used Glasses Collection Drive
This fall 2008, Rotaract & Foresight are launching a used glasses collection drive.
According to the World Health Organization, 250 million people in the world need corrective eyewear. But many people, especially those in developing countries, do not have access to eye care or eyeware.
To tackle the problem, Rotaract and Foresight are:
- Asking local optometrists, businesses, and UC Berkeley campus buildings to place collection bins in their locations.
- Asking students and community members to unpack those old glasses & donate them.
- Working with local optometrists and optometry students to neutralize all collected glasses.
- Distributing collections to impoverished communities in Guatemala.
If you are the owner of a business or a local, practicing doctor, please consider placing a collection bin in your business/office. One bin alone can make a large difference.
